Postcard from Hangzhou (and Travel Quiz is back!)

on September 27, 2012

Hello 🙂

How has your week turned out to be? I hope it has been a great one for you and you will have a peaceful weekend.

As promised, this Friday note is on my trip to Hangzhou. It’s a city famous for its scenic lake and gardens, about an hour away by express train from Shanghai. A very kind friend has made the time to take me there and show me around. It was cloudy, foggy, and drizzling. But, it took nothing away from the trip as I had a great time walking around the vast West Lake area. I bet it looks dead gorgeous in the spring (and dead crowded too). It was still beautiful in the fog, with certain melancholic nuance about it. I got a number of photos too, which I am sharing with you here.

So, this marks the end of my postcard series. I don’t know if I will still be able to send this note on a regular basis beginning next week. But, I will try hard to. Because I enjoy this and it’s therapeutic for me 🙂 (yes, I have a mental disorder called “itchyfeetophrenic” – it’s when one must travel for fun on a regular basis or he/she will go crazy). But before that, let’s see how good you are (especially the ones who travel a lot) at recognizing airline logos. The last image is the wing of the plane that took me home from China. Name the airline. (Piece of cake, right? :D) First one with the right answer will get…something.

Have a lovely weekend with your loved ones! (..and to my AZ buddies IVR and EDB, I’m gonna miss you two goofs very much!)

The starting point of our long walk at the West Lake.

Saw this scenic bridge on the way to a restaurant that my friend was so eager to try. Turned out she made an excellent choice!

The view from the top of Leifeng Pagoda.

The flowery pond. It’s the home of hundreds of fat fish, fed by thousands of tourists. See the orange color on the water? That’s them.

A tour of the West Lake can be good for your health. You can walk and have fresh clean air or ride a bike…I wonder what the sign by the side of the road means tho…hm…

Your travel quiz. O, how I love the window seat...
