Scribbled Scribble

The small things in life in a few paragraphs and snapshots

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

My country, Indonesia, is very rich and diverse in culture. But perhaps, Bali is the most famous of all, so much so that many foreigners think it is a country of its own. The fact is, it is one of Indonesia’s 33 provinces.

I took this photo of dancers performing Kecak dance in Bali last year. It is a dance which can send the performers into a trance. But, nowadays, it is very rare as it has been commercialized and to reach that trance state I think requires certain spiritual preparation.

Down The Memory Lane

Hey Ho! πŸ˜€

How is everyone doing? I hope all is well with you. As for me, I am also doing okay. It’s a time for a re-think and a possible re-direction for me. So, I am spending a lot of time pondering actually and then try things. I found that sometimes if you’re persistent, closed doors open. Now, whether or not you get in, is not for you think about before you knock. You knock first. If the door opens, then you’ll know if you can get in or not.

Anyway, because of the pondering, I had to search through old documents and stuffs. It led me to not only the documents, but also old photos of my family. I found my mom’s photos when she was pregnant with me, my brother when he was the elder brother I hated, my dad, my grandma just before she passed away, a photo of myself at junior high school taken by my first boyfriend, and many others. It was a very touching moment. The special one was of me at 2 years old with my brother and my dad. I remembered that I used to fight a lot with my brother (and argue with my dad). But, the thing about being a family is that sometimes you have to go through that uncomfortable phase of not being able to get along with each other. Over the course of the years though, at least in my case, I found ways to get along with my brother. We accept each other as we are now. We do not necessarily agree on everything, but we get along fine.

Now, the photo. It was taken on Christmas eve, so you see a small plastic Christmas tree behind us. I was only two, so I could not pick my own dress, hence the pink girly baby thing. That was my mom’s choice. (as I grew older, I used to wear my brother’s t-shirts, flannel shirts and mom had to interfere and stuff my closet with clingy tight girly stuffs). And I got presents too! πŸ˜€

Have a great weekend and treasure the moments with your family (including the fights), because we love them, don’t we? πŸ™‚

Things To Do Before You Die

Hello, hello πŸ™‚

How is everyone doing? All is well, I hope πŸ™‚ I have missed writing this weekly note as I was caught up in prep activities for something that I have been thinking about for the last six months or so. What that is, I will tell if/when it happens. It is one of the outstanding things to do on my “Things To Do Before I Die” list that I wrote more than a decade ago, which includes solo travel to Europe (checked), watch Liverpool FC play at Anfield (checked), watch U2 concert (unchecked), set foot in Africa for a safari trip (unchecked), publish a book (unchecked), marry a decent guy so I can have a cute chubby little Hazel Grace (yes, that is what I will name my daughter if I get to have one) (unchecked), pilgrimage to Jerusalem (unchecked) and a few more things.

So, before we get to the photo of the week, why don’t you think of the things you want to do before you die. Then write me back and share your dreams with me. I read somewhere that if you want to make something happen, share the goal with other people so that they can remind you to keep up the spirit in pursuing it. I think, at least, we need toΒ give it a shot so that we don’t have regrets or keep wondering the what-ifs.

Now, the snapshot. Did I mention that I was to attend a wedding of one of my closest friends last week in Bali? Well, I did and I was a makeshift wedding photographer for that big day. I am not sure if the bride and groom are happy with the result, but thank GOD for Snapseed! Anyway, I have a few snapshots which I think are safe to be shared here and will not breach the privacy contract πŸ˜€

Here they are. Have a super weekend!
