The small things in life in a few paragraphs and snapshots

Monkeys and Memories

Hello there.

How have you been? Has life been what you planned it to be or have you bumped into the unexpected? I hope all is well and as you wanted things to be. However, if you got surprises or things weren’t going as planned, then welcome to my world 🙂

In my line of work, we cannot plan beyond 48 hours. And when we say that “nothing is constant except change”, we mean it, like, literally. Sometimes it gets to me as I have to cancel things, miss gatherings with friends and family, cannot say goodbye in person to a special someone, miss a football match I was hoping to see, sell my concert ticket and many other fun stuffs. But, yesterday, I read an interesting quote that says: “If God asks you to bend, bend and do not complain. He is making you more flexible and for this be grateful.” I felt that probably that is what I am supposed to learn at this stage in my life. To be more flexible. Embrace the fact that life is full of surprises. Expect the unexpected. Because that’s just how life is.

Anyways, I was on a tour of duty earlier this week. I went to an onshore oil company base in Matak Island. It is one of the Anambas Islands somewhere south of South China Sea. So, it’s basically like the middle of…nowhere. Internet is, like, a luxury because it is THE link to the world as I know it (where we have my fav coffee shop, book stores, my friends and family and you guys). But, only a few hours after I landed, the mobile network died….until the morning of the day when I was leaving for home. So, it was “How To Kill Boredom in 3 Days” trip. And my Xperia V became my best friend as it helped me captured some interesting snapshots on the island. It’s got nice editing software and made my shots look like fun. And I am sharing them with you here. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I do.

To end this note, I am quoting a famous man: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” And that’s the quiz for this week. Who said that? Write to me! 😀

Have a great week(end or week) ahead. Keep making plans, but be flexible and expect the unexpected! 🙂

#1: The Anambas Islands as the plane was about to land.

#2: The Monkeys. There are wild monkeys in Matak. Unlike their friends in Bali, these monkeys are shy and they do not steal. They quickly climb the nearest tree if we come too close.

#3: The view through the fence at the jetty area. It is quite nice to look on.

#4: Reflection. I like the Lomo filter on my Xperia V!

#5: The Veteran. This man is over 60 and still actively working at the base after 20 years or so. He reminds me of my late father and brought back memories of him…

The Weekend Getaway

How are you all doing? Has your week turned out okay? I hope so and I hope you’re heading towards the end of the year in good spirit.

As for me, I am undergoing what they call Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET). It trains you to, among other things, escape from a sinking helicopter. So, this Thursday afternoon, I got in a simulator and got drowned 4 times with seatbelt on and window and door closed. We were expected to know how to open the window/door, unlatched the seatbelt, and swim up to the surface. The last two, they turned the simulator helicopter upside down under water. So…I spent weeks in the jungles of Indonesian mountains before. Nothing prepared me for that. Some people must think it’s pretty cool. Wait until they drown you upside down. Ha! By the way, I’m scheduled to go to an oil rig by Dec 10 for a week. Pray for my safety, please. You know the weather at this time of the year in Indonesia.

Now, remember that I went to Bali for a weekend getaway sometime back? Well, I’m going to share the photos with you. I think being spontaneous is fun! You should try it sometime, if you haven’t already.

So here are the photos. Have a lovely happy fun cheerful weekend! Don’t burn it!

The Italian Series Finale

This is a quick hello (which obviously I have said – doh!), as I am far away on an island somewhere in the South Cina sea. For work. I hope you are all well. And I, myself, am well too. Tired, but well.

So, this is the last part of the Italian series. This is an edit of a photo I took when wondering around aimlessly in an Italian city. Tell me which city. I’m gonna give you a clue: “mutant ninja turtle”.

Here’s the photo. Have a lovely weekend!
