Scribbled Scribble

The small things in life in a few paragraphs and snapshots

Season Greetings

Dear friends,

I haven’t been writing to you for a long time now. And it is not because I have forgotten about you all. A lot has been happening at work and I have to admit that I just did not make time to keep in touch. But, this Christmas, I made sure that I spent time with my best friends. It has been a great Christmas time, one to remember for years to come. We decided to visit an orphanage for children aged 0-6 years old and shared Christmas cookies with them. We also dropped of some daily baby stuffs like diapers and milk. It is a nice feeling to be able to share with these children. I am thinking of doing this on a more regular basis and then add more activities like story telling, book reading and more engagement activities.

I am sharing with you some photos from my Christmas with my friends and family. Christmas eve is also my birthday. And I am truly blessed this year to have been able to share it with these people. I hope you have the same joy that I experienced this Christmas.

From us, my cat Sandy included, to you and your family: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you who celebrate, and happy holidays to all.

Amazing Flores

Hello, hello! 😀

I haven’t written for quite sometime now, have I? How are you all doing? I hope you are well and happy 😀 I am doing okay. I have a back problem, but it’s getting better now after a couple of visits to a physiotherapist. My cat Sandy is also well, he’s becoming more like a forest cat now, a bit aggressive when we play. But, a few bite marks on my arm are fine!

By the way, I just visited Flores Island, an island on the southeast part of Indonesia. It is really beautiful and I really enjoyed my trip there. I also visited Komodo Island, the island of Komodo dragons. I actually saw a couple of them! So, I can now tick off another item from my bucket list 😀

Well, I’m just gonna let my photos tell you the story now. If you wish, you can also share your bucket list with me and what’s the next item you want to tick off.

Have a great week ahead!

1. Sunrise on Mount Kelimutu Crater

Mount Kelimutu has 3 craters that are lakes with 3 different colors: blueish green, dark red and black. The largest one is the blueish green in this picture.

2. The Bajawa Village Kids

20140805-084645-31605052.jpg
Kids love football/soccer so much in Flores. Most of them wear football jerseys, albeit the fake ones. This kid heading the ball is a fan of Robin Van Persie.

3. Mama Bajawa and Me

20140805-084925-31765409.jpg
In Flores, people address older women as “Mama”. Just like this lady here.

4. The Cathedral of Ruteng

20140805-085037-31837755.jpg
I did not expect to find a cathedral built with such a picturesque background in Flores!

5. Spiderweb Rice Fields

20140805-085611-32171184.jpg
In a village called Cara, we can find these uniquely Flores rice fields. They are arranged in a spiderweb pattern and on the center is where the farmers gave offerings to the gods before planting season started.

6. Sunset in Labuhanbajo

20140805-085147-31907085.jpg
I can do this all year: sit by the beach and watch the sun goes down in Labuhanbajo!

7. The View from Fregata Hill, Komodo Island

20140805-085243-31963915.jpg
The trekking routes for komodo sighting include the scenic spot on top of a hill called Fregata.

8. The Komodo Dragon

20140805-085901-32341579.jpg
Last, but definitely not least, the Komodo dragon, unique to Indonesia and only exist in 2 islands: Komodo and Rinca. They are giant lizards that can grow to 3 m long and eat a prey 40 kg in weight.

My Midweek Getaway

Hello! 😀

How are you all doing? It has been a while since I wrote to you, hasn’t it? I hope all is well with you and you are happy. My life has taken the hectic turn again recently, which is exciting with sprinkles of frustration here and there. But, such is life. It would have been boring if all goes well all the time. I am still working on my home improvement project too. I almost finished the bathroom and am now looking for the “perfect” kitchen-laundry combo design. It is a fun headache!

Anyways, I decided to take a short break midweek last week. I went to an island, south-east of Indonesia, Lombok Island. It was my third trip there. The first time I went there when I was in college, with a group of friends climbing Mount Rinjani, a 3,800-m high mountain. The second time was in 2007 and I decided to go on a cultural tour, visiting traditional Sasak village and seeing how they lived. So, this time, I decided to follow the surfers’ trail along the southern coast of the island. I don’t surf, but as you know, I love taking good pictures of nature and rural life. I met farmers and their oxes! For a city girl like me, that is an amazement 😀

So, I’m not gonna write more and share more pictures of the Lombok trip instead. If you’re interested in doing the same trip and would like to get info, just write me.

Have a great week ahead!

Day 1: I went to Malimbu Hill, northwest of the island, where I saw this beautiful view of Nipah beach.

Day 1: As I waited for sunset, I met a farmer and his ox, grazing. He let me take his picture, I was thrilled!

Day 1: Finally, the sunset everyone was waiting for!

Day 2: I rose early to get to Tanjung An beach early and enjoy it more. And I really did! I feel it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Indonesia!

Day 2: I climbed a hill at Tanjung An beach to take pictures of the sea, and met these kids! They were so happy that I took their picture!

Day 2: From Tanjung An, the guide took me to Seger beach. He managed to persuade me to climb a rocky hill despite my height phobia. I only made it half-way and stopped to take this amazing view of the beach.

Day 2: We then continued to Mawun beach, which is probably the most beautiful beach in Lombok. It was midday and rather difficult to see the viewer, so my panoramic picture was cut on either side.

20140601-194058-70858741.jpg

Day 2: The beach tour ended on Selong Belanak beach. It was cloudy, so I had to use some effects and filters to get this picture. There are lots of stray dogs in Lombok, including on the beaches. I found them napping in the sand.
